Thyroid Treatment

Thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the front of your neck. It secretes a hormone that controls the way your body uses energy. Hypothyroidism which happens when your thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormones. Hyperthyroidism which happens when your thyroid gland makes more thyroid hormones than your body needs

In Ayurveda, thyroid disorders are primarily attributed to imbalances in the digestive power, known as Agni. This imbalance disrupts the Ras Dhatu, the primary tissue responsible for nourishing the body, leading to the manifestation of various thyroid-related symptoms.

Ayurvedic Thyroid Treatment

Ayurvedic treatment encompasses Ayurvedic medicines, Panchakarma, Yoga, and Lifestyle modifications.

1. Ayurvedic Medicines – Ayurvedic Medicines are prescribed for a minimum duration of 6 months to 3 years, depending on the severity of the disease.

2. Panchakarma– 

  • A 15-day Panchakarma therapy includes Virechana/ Vaman, Nasya, Basti, Shirodhara, Raktamokshan. It is recommended to undergo this therapy once a year.
  • Nasya – once a month
  • Shirodhara – Once a month

3. Dietary Modifications

Refrain from consuming Soyabeans, Spinach, Cauliflower, Sweet Potato, Cabbage, Drumsticks, Broccoli, and Kale.

Avoid milk and milk products, as well as cold water.

4. Yoga and Pranayama

Engage in yoga and pranayama specifically designed to enhance thyroid function for thirty minutes daily.

Some beneficial yoga and pranayama practices for improving thyroid function include:

Om and Ham Chanting – Focus on the vishuddha chakra image while listening to music.

Pranayama – Practice Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Anulom-Vilom, and Ujjai breathing techniques.

YogasanaPerform Ardhachandrasana, Trikonasana, Chakrasana, Balasana, Ushtrasana, Marjariasana, Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana, Setubandhanasana, Matsyasana, Viparitkarni, and Shavasana.

5. Apunarbhav Chikitsa Preventive treatment performed annually to prevent disease relapse
