Today’s topic is Fissure and Piles.
Fissure and Piles are common and painful conditions that can significantly impact daily life. Bleeding from either condition can further compound the discomfort and lead to significant weakness.
It is important to understand the risk factors associated with Fissure and Piles. Individuals who consume spicy or non-vegetarian foods, as well as those who experience constipation, are more likely to develop these conditions.
Prevention is key in managing Fissure and Piles.
1) Prevent constipation.
2) Adhere to the “HEALTH MANTRA” for the summer season.
The link to the HEALTH MANTRA video titled “Immunity booster for October – Coconut” is provided below. Please watch the video.
The ‘HEALTH MANTRA’ for summer is:
“Consume sweet, white, watery, coconut, and boiled foods to prevent summer diseases.”
What to eat?
- Eat food which is white in colour like rice, coconut etc.
- Eat white fruits like apple, guava, banana, custard apple etc as white things are coolant.
- In diet have more of milk and milk products likes ghee, buttermilk, makkhan i.e butter.
- Avoid oily and spicy food esp green chilli, pepper, ginger, garlic.
In summer season if you don’t follow HEALTH MANTRA and eat lot of spicy food likes raw green chillies in form of chutney, sandwich, pani puri then bleeding starts from fissure and piles.
How can this bleeding be stopped?
A simple home remedy is:
ONION – Roast an onion on the stove with the peels, then remove the peels and consume the onion or have it with curd. This remedy immediately stops bleeding from fissures and piles.
What dietary changes should be made if you have fissures and/or piles?
1) Completely eliminate green chilies, pepper, ginger, and garlic from your diet.
2) Consume a significant amount of buttermilk with both meals.
3) Eat SURAN vegetable (Elephant yam) at least 2-3 times a week.
Prior to preparing SURAN vegetable, it is advisable to soak it in buttermilk for approximately one hour, followed by washing it with warm water. This process is recommended due to the presence of a significant amount of calcium oxalates in suran, which can be effectively removed by soaking in buttermilk. Consuming suran in its raw form may result in irritation of the throat and tongue, as well as an increased likelihood of joint pain and kidney stones.
4. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid consuming green leafy vegetables and salads, as the fibers present in these items can cause friction against pile mass and fissures, thereby exacerbating pain.
If you are constipated – to relief constipation consume 1 cup milk or 1 cup warm water added with 1 teaspoon of ghee or one teaspoon of almond oil before meals. This relieves constipation and flatus, as well as soothens anal skin and thus eases irritation and burning in anal area.
- Every day in the morning and at night consume 1 teaspoon of Triphala powder or 2 tablets of Triphala on empty stomach with warm water.
All of these home remedies will serve as preventative measures against fissure and piles or will alleviate your symptoms of fissure and piles.
However, it is still necessary to consult a medical professional to address the underlying cause.
In Panchakarma, a treatment called Ksharsutra effectively removes piles by severing the pile mass from its base.
